HOF: Ms. Harper
HOF would like to introduce Ms. Harper for those that don't know her. She is the Community Engagement Coordinator at Holmes STEM Academy in Flint. While I would love to describe the many hats she wears and the many talents she possesses..... I don't have enough space here. I think the question is really, "What doesn't she do?". While the list is endless, I want to highlight something she is responsible for. Ms. Harper organizes and maintains the mentorship program at her school. She helps at risk kids find mentors to get them motivated to be to school on time, improve their grades and make better decisions. She herself has 13 mentees she watches over. Even though she isn't a Flint native, she has embraced the city and made it her home. This mother of three is passionate about her own children too. I think the her only fear in life is with regard to them... in her need to always be there for them. She strives to make sure ALL her kids are taken care of though.

HOF: All the RETIREES of UAW Local 651
This post is dedicated to all the humans (Retirees) of UAW Local 651 in Flint, MI. Last month they held their monthly meeting and Christmas gathering. During these meetings they discuss anything from health insurance, news that may change their retirement benefits and group outings. For the most part these meetings seem to be happy gatherings. These last few months though the discussion has revolved around the implications of Trump being president and how this may have an affect on their medicare and health plans. They discussed holding the new president to promises he made during his campaign and how they plan to work with the potential policy changes the president and congress may make regardless. These humans are truly survivors and will endure.

HOF: Fred M
Fred- pictured on his cell because he is always working on something, talking to someone, making something move or work... his phones are always buzzing.
Fred has lived and worked in Flint since 1983. Born in Owosso, he moved to Lansing for his undergrad and for law school but came to Flint for his first job and never left. If you've ever visited him in his office on Grand Traverse, you'd see he's a very avid Spartan fan. Aside from his work as an attorney.... he volunteers his time to assist in several non-profits. He organized and helps run the Genesee County Chapter of the Michigan State University Alumni Association.....GO GREEN! He also serves and volunteers for the Bishop Airport Authority Board, Legal Services of Eastern Michigan and for Genesee County Lawyers and Judges who need assistance. I'm pretty sure the man doesn't sleep.

HOF: Luz Y
This is the fabulous Luz Y. She is not originally from Flint, MI (Like so many, I mean there are really a ton of people here in the city that have come and have stayed because they like it here, Huh?) Either way, she lives here now and ... she is amazing. Wife, mother, grandmother (I don't want to label her as a preacher's wife) but also a Minister in her own right. Yes, her husband is a Presbyterian Minister (Married 30 years).... but Luz charges ahead in her own work... volunteering and organizing food events to feed the people in Flint that need to eat... what's amazing about it though is her ability to serve and get right in there with the people she serves and she gets to know them. What's more amazing (aside from the fact the church/people she serves with (First Presbyterian Church of Flint) prepares 125 meals per week) is she makes a huge point to remember the names of the people she's serving. She said it is very important. She was pumping gas and ran into a gentleman she knew from FPC's Sunday breakfasts and called him by name. He was surprised but it also made him smile. It proves anyone is welcome to eat where she is serving. Anyone. She wants everyone to feel at home at her table.

HOF: Hattie aka Mama 2
Three generations of family all from Flint, Michigan.
Hattie in the center, her granddaughter, Tracy, on the left and her daughter, Crystal, on the right. Hattie also known as Mama2 is and has been a Flint resident for 66 years. She was born in Mississippi but moved to Flint with her husband when he landed a job working for "the shop". They came to Michigan for better work and to escape racial segregation. They found relief from segregation by moving north. Flint is and will always be her home. #humansofflint @humansofflint
