Jamie has been in a wheel chair for only a portion of his life. He was injured in a car accident that left him without the use of his legs. I consider him a champion... defying the brand that society puts on those with disabilities.
During the car accident his aorta was ruptured on impact. While he didn't sustain any direct injuries to his spinal column, during the emergency surgery to repair his aorta (cardiopulmonary bypass), he lost blood (ie oxygen) flow to his spine, nervous systems and muscles. This caused the lack of ability to move his legs. While no doctor directly told him he would likely never walk again, he slowly came to that realization on his own.
Jamie would be the first to admit that by no means does he deny responsibility for the accident, the paralysis however is another story. Either way, he doesn't make excuses for his actions or behavior for the accident, he doesn't dwell on it either... he just keeps moving forward.
